# Application Settings

Application settings (also known as, app settings) are configuration points that modify different points of an organization's instance of Digital Identity Management. Digital Identity Management app settings are organized under different processes so that you can tailor user journeys. Using app settings, you can define items as follows:

* Minimum password complexity rules

* Banned password list

* The maximum number of times a user can fail a login attempt before invoking reCAPTCHA

* The maximum number of times a user can fail a login attempt before temporarily locking them out

* Whether a user can authenticate into a service while their email address or mobile number is still pending verification

  As a best practice, it is recommended that your organization requires new end users to verify the email address or mobile number with which they onboard. However, depending on the nature of your service, there is a case to be made for allowing new users to sign up and authenticate immediately into a service and to verify their contact channel at a later date. For example, your organization may wish to grant provisional or partial access to a service right away, and signal to those users what a fully verified profile will get. This can drastically improve user engagement and retention chances by (temporarily) removing one less hurdle between your services and your prospective customers.

* Whether to automatically authenticate a user after a given Process

* Whether to send a notification email or SMS to a user after a given Process

* Whether to enable auto-account discovery upon and user's first login

* Maximum number of end users that can share an account or service

* Whether a user needs to explicitly accept an invite to share access to another end user's service
