# Social Media Integration

Social media login is an authentication method whereby users onboard or log in to a service using their existing social media identity. From a user's perspective, it is a sign-up or sign-in process that is as easy as clicking a button. Leveraging social media credentials skips the effort of manually entering a username and password for logging in, or filling out registration forms for onboarding. In addition to standard authentication methods, Digital Identity Management uses an access token mechanism to support social media login with any viable social media provider.

Out of the box, Digital Identity Management supports easy-to-configure integrations with the following social media providers:

* Apple
* Facebook
* Google
* LinkedIn
* Microsoft

An integration between Digital Identity Management and social media providers are enabled by the OpenID Digital Identity Management (OIDC) and OAuth 2.0 authorization frameworks.

An integration with a social media provider enables back end associations between your end user's User ID and their social account. In other words, a social integration allows your application to offer social onboarding and authentication user flows, so that prospective users can sign up and sign in with their existing social accounts.

Digital Identity Management can then also federate the end user's session to additional OIDC-compliant applications that the merchant registers under their MarketONE tenant ID. This results in a seamless sign-in experience from a single entry point (either the social media provider or Digital Identity Management) that can then follow the end user from application to application without the need to re-authenticate with each service. Third-party social integrations allow end users to share segments of their information from one website to another without the need to expose their credentials.

There are two steps to configuring a social media integration:

1. Your organization needs to navigate to the social provider's developer portal to create an app. As a part of that process, the social provider issues specific secret keys.
2. Then, those keys are provided to Digital Identity Management in the Digital Identity Management **Admin console**, under the **Social Connections** settings menu.

Once these two steps are complete, your instance of the Digital Identity Management service will support live calls between Digital Identity Management Processes and the configured social media provider.

## Key User Capabilities

Once your organization enables a social media connection for your client, users can perform the following activities:

* Onboard with a social media provider (create User ID with data from the Provider)
* Authenticate with a social media provider (sign in with a session from the Provider)
* Digital Identity Management the User ID to a social media provider (after the User ID already exists)
* Disconnect the social media provider from the User ID
