# Upgrade ULM 9

You can select specific ULM 9 components or microservices to upgrade. The ULM upgrade path includes retrieving new Helm charts and performing an update on each one.

1. Following the release notes, it's best to check the reference values file and compare it with the existing one created during the installation step for any changes. From the command line, enter the following:

   `$ helm repo update $ helm pull <repo>/<chart> --version <version> --untar`

2. If any changes are required, apply them to your customized values file. Issue the Helm command to perform the upgrade:

   `helm upgrade <release name> <repo>/<chart> --version <version> --namespace <namespace> --values values.yaml`

   **Example**: `helm upgrade <release name> <repo>/ulm-platform-ms-private-cloud --version <1.1.1> --namespace <abc-ulm> --values values.yaml`

The selected ULM 9 helm chart or component is updated. Any changes made take effect immediately.

## ULM 9 Upgrade Variable Details

| Variable Name | Description | Example |
| - | - | - |
| \`\` | The release name associated with the current installation. Helm stores install details and metadata in the release name object within the cluster. The release name is used when working with the installed chart in the future such as an upgrade or uninstall operations. | \<abc-ulm-platform-ms> |
| \`\` | The repository name supplied/used when the chart repository was configured via the helm command: `helm repo add` | \<repo> ulm-platform-ms-private-cloud |
| \`\` | The specific version of the chart to install. See the software version matrix from the latest ULM 9 Release Notes. | --version \<2023.04.135> |
| \`\` | Defines the namespace to install the chart into. If you're using the default namespace, this parameter can be omitted. | --namespace \<abc-ulm> |
| values.yaml | The command uses the customized values file that was saved to `values.yaml` in the current working directory, but should reflect the saved location of the values file created. | --values yourvalues.yaml |
